Security Incident at Molino Street Lofts

January 27, 2008

Dear Fellow Residents:

It’s the obligation of the HOA to inform residents of important situations related to the safety and security of our community. Early Saturday morning between 1:30– 2:00 a.m. there were a series of gun shots on Molino Street at the north end of the property.

What we know is a late model silver Mercedes or BMW drove down the street and someone inside shot at three vehicles parked in front of 500 the building. These were all resident’s cars, luckily no one was injured. This situation has been turned over to the LAPD for their investigation. If you have any information about this please contact the HOA immediately.

We feel it’s the responsibility of the Board to take the necessary steps to provide the safest environment possible here in our community.

In the last several months there has been an escalation in crime in our community. We’ve had internal and external building vandalism, car break-ins on the streets surrounding the building, on the rooftop garage and across the street in the shared parking structure. Everyday there are people loitering around our property who are not residents and not guests of residents.

For the time being we will have a professional security officer placed on site during the evenings and weekends. We are also gathering bids and evaluating the possibility of installing a security camera system on the exterior of the property and common areas. We’re also looking into additional street lighting around MSL.

Our next HOA general meeting is March 3rd at 6:30 p.m. Please attend so we may discuss this situation together.

Thank you for your understanding,

MSL HOA Board

Open Letter to Residents

January 7, 2008

Dear Fellow Residents:

It has been brought to the Board’s attention there have been recent incidents of vandalism and threatening letters directed at resident’s doors. We believe these to be domestic neighbor disputes that should have been handled in a mature, earnest way.

These specific events have been turned over to the LAPD for their investigation.

SIMPLE TIPS FOR COMMUNITY CONDUCT:

  • Make attempts to be neighborly and get to know one another.
  • Have a contact number or email if we need to reach each other.
  • If residents have questions, problems or concerns with a fellow resident - please have an objective conversation to resolve the issue.
  • If the situation is still a problem, please contact the management company or the HOA Board directly to allow us to help settle the dispute in a reasonable and fair manner.

PLEASE NOTE: Vandalism and threatening letters are in violation of the CC&R’s and finable offenses. Furthermore, it is considered unacceptable community behavior and will not be tolerated. Instances will be reported to the LAPD.

We live in a unique artist community. Please remember we share our lives here and need to show respect to one another. Let’s all make this a great 2008!

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation,

MSL HOA Board

Caution - Beware of Sonic Towing Company

As posted previously Sonic Towing in the Arts District of Los Angeles continues to cause many problems for the residents of Molino Street Lofts and now the new Barker Block.

I don’t know what it will take to encourage this business to STOP endangering the lives of the residents of Molino Street Lofts.

The Tow Truck drivers seem to find amusement in dangerous 40-65 mile an hour games with 2-3 ton trucks honking, ad shouting while young Children are being rolled in strollers on Palmetto street. In addition, whenever any resident or concerned neighbor confronts them they immediately “group together” and get “hostile” - on many occasions it have been documented intimidation and/or threats of bodily harm.

Please ask Sonic Towing to stop driving wrecklessly and start using caution - this is a community now, not a vacant Block.
